Dr. Katherine Fogelberg earned a PhD in Science Education from Texas Christian University, an MA in Educational Leadership from St. Mary’s University, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Texas A&M University. An Army veteran, she has over a decade of clinical experience in small animal general and emergency practice, with additional work in zoo and wildlife medicine. Over the past 15 years, she has served in higher education as a professor and administrator, publishing widely across veterinary medicine, education, and public health. She is editor and contributing author of a recently published veterinary education textbook, a founding member and past President of the Academy of Veterinary Educators, and one of only 32 Distinguished Educators selected to lead the development of a global veterinary educator certification process. In her spare time, she serves as the CEO of a federally recognized non-profit, which has a school in Kenya that supports the education of over 300 students from pre-kindergarten through grade 8; runs regularly; and hangs out with her husband and three cats. |

Dr. Grider is both a veterinarian and a therapist. She graduated from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 and worked for eleven years in small animal practice as an Associate Veterinarian in north Alabama. In 2019, she opened her own full-time veterinary relief business where she has provided both general practice and emergency services to veterinary hospitals in the Tennessee River Valley. She has special interests in internal medicine, oncology, dentistry, and feline medicine. Today, Dr. Grider primarily practices on a PRN basis as an emergency clinician at Huntsville Veterinary Specialists and Emergency. Dr. Grider became a Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional in 2021 and completed a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at the University of North Alabama in 2023. She is a National Certified Counselor and an Associate Licensed Counselor in Alabama, where she practices as a therapist under the clinical supervision of Jane Sweeney, LPC-S. In 2024, she opened her own therapy practice, HappyCat Counseling, in Huntsville, AL. She specializes in counseling healthcare workers and those in the helping professions, managing anxiety, and reducing self-harm. She enjoys teaching emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, boundary-setting, and ADHD management skills. She is proud to provide LGBTQIA2S+ affirming care. Dr. Grider is the co-host of IntroVETS Podcast, a veterinary podcast by introverts with high-functioning anxiety. She and her co-host JJ present clinical case studies, interviews with veterinary specialists and other veterinary professionals, and mental health episodes with special guest therapists. |
